There’s no reason why I shouldn’t be serving a life sentence in prison right now. There’s also no reason why I shouldn’t be suffering from some incurable disease. There’s no reason why I shouldn’t be poor, destitute, and lonely.
Jesus says that those who worship in spirit and in truth are “true worshipers.” So if we are going to fully understand what Jesus means, we have to explore what worship is, then we have to determine what it means to worship in spirit and what it means to worship in truth.
Countless men and women fight a measureless battle to resist sin, intentionally choosing the harder path, and all to the glory of the Lord, trusting that His glory is a more worthy pursuit than their own desires. That’s biblical manhood and womanhood and, dare I say it, Christlikeness, at its pinnacle.
If we stop mourning, we stop repenting. If we stop repenting, we stop confessing. If we stop confessing, our bones waste away. Freedom and comfort come when our sin is rightly dealt with, and that process begins with mourning.
